The 21st annual seminar targeted for journalists and professionals in the fields of addictions and other psycho-social issues.
Seminar provides a balanced combination of training, results from recent studies for immediate use for articles and a possibility to network between leadings experts of the field and the mass media. This year the seminar is a special occasion organized in cooperation with both Finnish and German experts. The seminar will be held n the idyllic spa town of Bad Ems in Southern Germany on September 7-10, 2006.
The main theme of the seminar Alcohol, drugs and violence comprises of actual and important sub themes like violence at prisons and treatment, violence on the drug markets and domestic violence against different family members. Also connections between alcohol, drugs and violence in different societal systems like the police, prisons, traffic, and alcohol treatment are analysed by high class experts in brief compact presentations. The program will be hold in English all Friday and in Finnish on Saturday.
The networking function of the seminar is promoted by the included coffees, lunches and dinners and extensive evening programs. An excursion to a nearby Obernhof Vineyard takes place on Friday and a river boat dinner of Rhine in Flames festivities on Saturday.
The seminar is organized and financially supported by the A-Clinic Foundation, Alko, Finnish Health Association, Finnish Society for Alcohol and Drug Research, Helsinki Deaconess Institution, Life tastes better without drugs Association, Probation Foundation Finland, Finnish Association for Medical Editors, Ministry of Justice, Finnish Association of Science Editors and Journalists. The German partner is Katholische Fachhochschule NW from Cologne.
Seminar fee (from Finland) is 480 euro, which covers in practise nearly all costs: lectures, visits, flights Helsinki-Cologne-Helsinki, bus transportations in Germany, full board at single rooms at the seminar hotel. There are a few free or reduced scholarships for Finnish free lance journalists. Costs for German participants will be calculated on individual case bases.
